Character development makes me happy
Feeling memey today.

Give me the name of a character I write or have written and I'll tell you:
- What they are like when they're drunk
- If they have any tattoos/scars/birthmarks
- What frivolous thing makes them really happy
- What stupid thing makes them really annoyed
- Special skills (languages they speak, instruments they play, etc)
- Prized possession(s)
- Medical conditions (allergies, injuries, chronic complaints, etc.)
- Comfort food/activity/object

OCS and AUs welcome, as always. Feel free to ask for a couple of characters.

Previously I have done Q, Sherlock, and Mycroft Holmes, Bruce Banner and Nemi, Tony Stark and Demira, Alec Thornton, John Watson (Abby!verse) and Harry Dresden.

Putting this here to make it easier to respond from my iPad if necessary:

Ooh, fun! From Abby!verse, Would you mind doing Sarah and, if it's even possible, maybe Abby from when she's a little older (no worries if it's not possible)?

Yep, I can give it a go!

Sarah Sawyer
What they are like when they're drunk: Sarah is a very giggly, falling over herself drunk. She drank more in her youth than she does now, but she still sometimes gets pissed and John usually has to sit her or prop her up various places while she giggles as he tries to unlock the front door and get her to bed.
Tattoos/scars/birthmarks: A few stretch-marks that never went away after being pregnant, quite a few freckles, a scar on her right leg from a bike accident when she was a child. Her father sewed her up in his surgery, which is when she decided she wanted to be a doctor, too, because it was really, really fascinating to watch.
Frivolous thing that makes them really happy: Having pretty nails. She has an unhealthily large collection of nail polish and she paints her nails most Sundays to make her feel pretty for the week. Abby likes to have her nails painted, too. Sarah uses kid-friendly polish for that.
Stupid thing that makes them really annoyed: John's left-handedness is occasionally very frustrating. It's not his fault, and she knows it's not his fault, but where he puts things is entirely opposite from where she feels they should be, and at the end of a long day, reaching for the computer mouse and having to move it to the other side of the laptop can be amazingly annoying.
Special skills: John is often impressed by how fast she can put on a pair of tights. She's also a very good kisser, according to him. She can run in heels, a skill learned from being an administrator in an environment where people sometimes need urgent medical care.
Prized possession(s): Her dad gave her a necklace when she left medical school, which is a little diamond on a gold chain. She wears it quite often.
Medical conditions Seasonal allergies. Other than that, she's a rather healthy person.
Comfort food/activity/object: Baths. Most problems can be solved by a hot bath. In her family, if someone asks where/how Sarah is and you say she's having a bath and it's not a normal time to be having a bath, everyone understands that Sarah is not feeling well. Even Sherlock has come to understand that 'Sarah's in the bath' means it's not a good time to ask John to do something for him.

(Saying Abby is 16 here, as that's the legal drinking age in Britain)

Abby Watson
What they are like when they're drunk: Abby's first and so far only experience with being drunk came on her birthday, when John and Sarah allowed her to have a drink. She's not a big girl (thanks, genetics) and she may have overestimated what a suitable drink size was. Nothing too terrible happened. She stared at a wall and explained in very scientific terms why she didn't think moving was a good idea. Everyone was amused except her.
Tattoos/scars/birthmarks: She has a stork bite on the back of her neck, and some freckles over her face. Her adventure-loving youth has left a few marks on her person, but no really noticeable scars.
Frivolous thing that makes them really happy: Pretty colours. She's not that flashy a dresser, but she likes being surrounded by bright, happy colours. Colouring is nice.
Stupid thing that makes them really annoyed: She's a teenager, so everything makes her annoyed at the moment. Which is annoying in and of itself, actually.
Special skills: No surprises, she's acing her O-level science classes. She's also pretty observant, but she mostly uses it to see how best to approach people. It's not manipulation, really, because her moral code is too strong for that, but she's quite good at getting people to talk to her and noticing what's wrong and trying to help. She uses her powers for good. She's also a good storyteller, and gets good marks on creative writing.
Prized possession(s): Mr Owl still sleeps with her every night. He's very battered looking, but Abby isn't ready to send him off to owl heaven yet.
Medical conditions None yet, aside from a few headaches here and there when she's been too hunched over her work.
Comfort food/activity/object: Mr Owl qualifies as this, as well. She holds him while she cries, usually with Dad or Mum at the end of the bed, providing verbal comfort. Then she usually has a bath.

Thank you thank you! OMG, the left-handedness being an irritating factor—what a great catch.

Even Sherlock has come to understand that 'Sarah's in the bath' means it's not a good time to ask John to do something for him.

Wow, even Sherlock knows to respect the baths!

Thanks for the details about Abby. I love her so much, and I’m pleased she’s doing well in her science (thanks, uncle Sherlock!). <3

This verse is awesome!

Thank you thank you! OMG, the left-handedness being an irritating factor—what a great catch.

My dad is left handed. I use my computer mouse left-handed because he taught me how to use a computer. I know the small annoyances of living with a lefty.

Wow, even Sherlock knows to respect the baths!

He's come to understand that if Sarah is having a bath at an odd time, it must mean she's ill or upset and John is most likely required to take care of her and/or Abby. The shortest way for John to communicate all of this is to say that 'Sarah's in the bath'. Sherlock appreciates not having to sit through the details.

This verse is awesome!

Thank you! And thanks for playing.

In honor of your last story, I'll ask for Jarvis and Haddie.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on January 20th, 2015 04:34 am (UTC)
...I was hoping you would. :-D

Edwin Jarvis and Haddie

What they are like when they're drunk: Jarvis is a terribly romantic drunk. He gets very sweet, and very loving, and recites poetry. Haddie sometimes howls sings torch songs, but mostly she smiles and looks dreamy. He doesn't get very drunk very often. Someone in the household needs to keep things under control. The most drunk he's ever been was an occasion where Mr Stark was doing business with some rather frightening Russians, and they insisted Jarvis consume really quite alarming amounts of vodka, which Jarvis did so as not to offend. Jarvis remembers very little after about an hour into the meeting, Haddie a little more, but according to Mr Stark, Jarvis was at one point quite literally under the table with Haddie and recited almost 3/4 of the 'Lady of Shalot' before he lost his place and started again, but Haddie insisted he was still saying it wrong and then he gave up and stayed quiet. He also undid two buttons on his waistcoat, which Mr Stark said was the most unkempt he'd ever seen him. For many years, Mrs Dejeni counted the experience as the best thing she'd ever seen, but it was downgraded to second place after Master Tony's birth. (The deal was a success, for the record.)
Tattoos/scars/birthmarks: Many calluses from various manual tasks, like scrubbing stains from evening coats. A burn on his left arm from an ironing incident. Three faint marks on his right arm from a rather upset ladyfriend of Mr Stark's who didn't want to leave when asked. A scar from a gash incurred when working as a volunteer during the London Blitz. Haddie fell into a hole trying to help a daemon escape from some rubble, and Jarvis tore his shin open trying to get her out, made much more difficult by her refusal to let go of the daemon in her mouth. All were saved in the end.
Frivolous thing that makes them really happy: Good stitching. Whether his own or others', he finds it very satisfying when something is well made. Haddie likes when she can see the last light go off in the Stark house at night. It makes her feel like she's done a good job and her employers are all able to rest.
Stupid thing that makes them really annoyed: American spelling. It's lazy. Haddie dislikes when someone suggests Jarvis do something that is basic manners as though he wouldn't think to do it anyway. There is no need to tell him to give up his seat on the bus to a lady when he is already in the process of rising!
Special skills: Sewing, ironing, basic cookery skills, an encylopaedic knowledge of etiquette, basic mechanic skills, impeccable penmanship, evasive and defensive driving. Rather a good shot, if required. Jarvis is a man of many overlooked skills and considers none of them very special.
Prized possession(s): A watch given to him by Mr Stark after ten years of service, and a pair of cufflinks after twenty years of service. A rather lovely tie that Anna chose for him. Later on in his life, he also had a bottle of Anna's perfume that Haddie wouldn't let him throw away.
Medical conditions A touch of hyperopia that requires glasses for closework. Also suffers frequently from cramp in his legs at night from all the standing he does. It started right from his early days as a footman a big house and never really went away.
Comfort food/activity/object: Anything repetitive, like polishing silverware or ironing or buffing shoes. Haddie finds Anna's perfume comforting. They both always found the ritual of Anna lighting the Shabbat candles very pleasant, as well, especially the sound of the blessing.

Edited for spelling and clarification

Awww! These are great! I particularly like the detail about Anna's perfume. Especially that it's Haddie that finds it comforting.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on January 22nd, 2015 01:59 am (UTC)
Jarvis and Haddie have a different human/daemon relationship than others I've written, in that Jarvis is the sensible one and Haddie is more of a brat and silly and teasing and emotional. Jarvis is the only human I've written that has scolded his daemon rather than being scolded by them.
