Beta request?
I'm not done with my Dresden Files Ficathon fic just yet, but I thought it would be prudent to get a beta ready in case I end up cutting it close. It's bookverse, with spoilers up to and including White Night. There are not spoilers for Small Favor as far as I know. Anybody willing to be my beta when it's ready to roll?

What kind of thinker am I? )

Second, from [info]joonscribble

Everyone has things they blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by asking me about something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on slash, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

Various Miscellanea
A woman my mum works with sent her home with Series 5 of QI and some episodes of I'd Do Anything on couple of disks. I watched the first two episodes of I'd Do Anything tonight and I am totally addicted.

It's sort of like American Idol for musical theatre. It's a British show, and they're trying to find people to play Nancy and Oliver in the new West End production of Oliver!. They've done two previous series, one to find Maria in The Sound of Music and one to find Joseph for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. They need one woman for Nancy and 3 young boys to play Oliver. John Barrowman is one of the judges/coaches, so that's kind of cool, mostly I'm finding the show itself really interesting. It's like American Idol, but I care, you know? I love musical theatre. So I'm up to the Top 12 now, where the women and boys are going to be started to be voted on by the public. I decided to wait until my mum could watch it with me, since I thought she'd enjoy it.

I haven't watch any of the QI, yet, but I know that'll be good because QI is love.

In other news, I am having the worst time with my Water fic for [info]dresdenflashfic. I started with one story which went absolutely nowhere, so I talked it out with Ama and she gave me a new idea, which I've now written, but it's way too long and I'm trying to cut it down so it has a nice, clean plotline and...blargh! I haven't missed a challenge there yet, but I wasn't terribly happy with the last one I wrote (for the Fire challenge), so I'd rather not submit one than submit one I'm not happy with. Hopefully the fact that it's driving me crazy is only because it's late. Maybe tomorrow everything will look better and I'll be able to edit it into something submittable. If not, oh well.

My [info]dresdenficathon fic is coming along nicely now, though, after a rough start. I realized I was coming at it from the wrong angle and now it's going along quite quickly. I'm pretty confident I'll have it done in time.

Also, I got a 97 on my Philosophy exam! Whoot! I don't know my final mark yet, but I'm obviously very pleased with that.

I missed doing this yesterday, so:

Happy Birthday, Journal!

It became one year old on April 27th.

I'd just like to thank everyone on my f-list for letting me read your entries and talk with you. You are wonderful, fascinating people and I enjoy the time I spend here. Thank you to everyone who's left me a comment as well, you always make my day. :-)

Questions Needing Answers
Doing one of my question round-up posts, this time RE: the Dresden Files bookverse. Spoilers for up to and including White Night.

PSA: I haven't read all of Small Favor yet, so please don't spoil any plot points in the comments. I know some of the answers might be found in Small Favor and I just haven't reached them yet, but I'm working at reading it in bursts and I want to make sure I have some idea of the answers in order to have enough time to finishing writing before my ficathon deadline.

[info]joonscribble does book rec's quite often and I'm always impressed with her well-readedness (well-readitivity?). I thought I'd offer a list of some of my favourite books of all time, not to show off my well-readedness, but to share the book love.

Character Question Meme
Stolen from [info]gusthemoose's Murphy RP journal and manipulating for my own purposes. (Muhahaha!)

Character Questions Meme
1. Go here to generate 10 random numbers between 1 and 100. DO THIS FIRST.

2. Choose a character that I write or have written, be it a canon person (Mal), an OC (Dr. Forrester, no matter how small) or whatever.

3. Comment with the character and the numbers, and then I will answer the corresponding questions from here.

If you choose Mal or Fay or Graylin (or anyone of a minor age), any questions inappropriate to ask a child will be answered as though they were adults. You can choose a couple of characters if you want.

Easter Fun
So, Easter went very well for me. My mum had to work on Sunday so we did the family thing on Monday. We had brunch...at 6:00 at night. We were going to do it in the morning, but my brother had school and then we were going to do it after that but Amalie's brother George (who is rooming with Adam and Ama for awhile) was working, so we ended up doing it at night. We still had breakfast food though - fried potatoes, sausages, toast, bacon, scrambled eggs and pancakes. Plus some key lime yogurt bars for dessert that I made for my dad. He's diabetic, so they were sugar free and he really likes key lime things. Note to the world: juicing key limes is a bitch. The Easter bunny came at night too, and there was much chocolate to be had.

On Sunday, Amalie, Stacey and Erica came over to dye Easter eggs. I found out a few years back that Ama had never done it as a kid, so I started the tradition. It turns out Stacey and Erica had never done it before either, so it was a bit like being a kindergarten teacher. I spent more time instructing and watching than actually doing anything. Which was fine, because it was a total, total, total blast. At one point I was laughing so hard I was crying. Total fun.

Then we watched Enchanted (which is sooooo good) and had much merriment before Stacey and Erica left so Stacey could go to her Easter dinner thing. It's sort of awesome how four 21 - 24 year olds can have that much fun doing totally childish things. I love my group of friends. Ama stayed for a little while longer and let me read my stories to her and chatted out some of the ones that aren't completed yet. She's good like that.

And now I'm off to school to be historical. Hope everyone else had a lovely Easter for those who celebrate it. If you don't, I hope you had a lovely weekend. :-)

Triumph!
I am done my Philosophy course! I still have to write the exam, but all the work is done.

Take that, Philosophy course! You think you could break me with your nonsensical questions and your misnumbered answers and your strange lack of quotation marks in certain articles, but I have prevailed! I stand upon your smouldering remains and laugh, laugh I say! Muahahaha!

On to World History. High school diploma, here I come! Boo-yah!

Tell me the title of a story I haven't written, details optional, and I'll give you a summary. If you're really lucky, I might even write the story for you.

Feel free to be as specific to characters or fandoms as you wish and to suggest a few.

Weird Problem
I'm not seeing quotation marks or apostrophes on some people's entries for some reason. It makes it very hard to read stories. I'm guessing it's maybe only posts composed in Word or maybe with a program like Semagic. It doesn't seem to be on my own posts, I can read them fine. The quotations and apostrophes look like periods or dashes. Sort of like .Jack,. The Doctor.s voice said. It's hard to read. Any suggestions on what the problem might be and/or how to fix it?

ETA: It looks like this if that helps anyone.

Excerpt is from [info]donutsweeper's journal, a story that can be found here.

WIP Meme
Taken from [info]joonscribble.

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

A very selected selection because if I did excerpts from all of them, we'd be here until next January. Keep in mind these aren't edited yet are subject to changes. Also, don't hold your breath for their completion. ;-)

Rather Random Neat Thing
As I worked on the weekly quiz at the learning centre today, (this) I came across an interesting thing. There's something called the Parsons Code for identifying songs. He wrote a book "The Directory of Tunes and Musical Themes", which allows the reader to identify that song they've been humming by following a simple system of finding out the general tune.

You start by humming the first note of the song. This is marked as an asterix (*) in the code. Then you hum the next note. Is it higher (U) or lower (D) or the same (R) as the first note? You write down the appropriate letter. Then you continue to the third note, U, D, or R? You keep going, recording the general notes until you have a code like *RURURDDRDRDRD (Hum it, you'll recognize it). You could then look up the code in the book and find the song.

I thought it was kinda cool. Here's the wiki page for it. Give it a try, if you want, and post it in a comment. I'll try to guess the song.

Shameless Plugging
Or shamless plugging as I originally wrote. Plugging without a pillowcase?

The lovely [info]featherjean has set up a Dresden Files Ficathon. I'm not sure how many people would see this entry that wouldn't have seen an announcement elsewhere, but I figured it was worth the effort.

Sign-Ups are due by March 17th. You can specify which verse you'd like to write for (book or TV or both) and what you will and will not write (so no worries about ending up with a smut or slash prompt if that's not your cup of tea).

The community is [info]dresdenficathon and the rules are here. Come join us, it will be fun!
