Memeage 4.0
New meme! Huzzah! This type is my favourite. Questions chosen from here, with one I added in myself.

Give me the name of a character I write or have written and I'll answer these questions:

-Who did they look up to the most as a child?
-What nicknames/pet names/terms of endearment did they have when they were little?
-What clothing do they like to wear, and what do they wear most often?
-Do they sing or play any musical instruments, even if just for fun? How well?
-What are they like when they get sick? Do they have a particular system (ears, lungs, etc) that illness gravitates to?
-What is a gift that they have received that was especially touching or significant?
-How do they arrange or decorate their living space?

As always, OCs and AUs are very welcome.

*pulls meme out of the fridge* Here's one I conveniently prepared earlier! Nora's coming soon.

JJ Rogers

Who did they look up to the most as a child? Definitely Steve. Steve was quite literally Super Dad, and JJ wanted to be like him in every way. Which sometimes caused problems as there was no way JJ could--and it was hard for him to understand for a few years why Steve could do what he could and why JJ never, ever should try to do it. Ever. JJ has settled on at least trying to be as upstanding as Steve, which is a hard task, and he sometimes feels a little unworthy in his role as heir. But he knows Steve loves him and is proud of him, whatever he does.

What nicknames/pet names/terms of endearment did they have when they were little? Aside from 'JJ', which is his official Not-Joseph name, JJ had plethora of other names he was called, depending on who he was interacting with. Steve used a bunch of 1940's dad words, like sport or champ or buddy, as well as the more affectionate 'Bear'. Nora stuck to mostly 'sweetie' and 'Jay'. Uncle Bucky calls him 'kid' and 'pal'. Uncle Tony still uses 'Mini-Cap', and also the collective term of 'Mini-Popscicles' when referring to JJ and Winnie together. JARVIS calls him Master Joseph, though he did ask if JJ would prefer Mr Rogers when JJ turned 18, but JJ was too set on Master Joseph for that. The rest of the Avengers mostly used and continue to use 'buddy', except for Thor. Thor sometimes calls him Rogerson or Son of Rogers, which makes JJ feel very badass indeed.

What clothing do they like to wear, and what do they wear most often?
JJ likes to keep himself pretty neat and tidy in his hygienic habits, because that was the example set by Steve, but when it comes to clothing, he tends to be more casual. Jeans and t-shirts and hoodies, and his trusty fedora. On special occasions, his clothing does tend to be distinctly Steve-like, with khakis, dress shirts, and a nice jacket.

Do they sing or play any musical instruments, even if just for fun? How well? JJ isn't a bad singer, but not a great one. He has trouble hearing subtle pitch changes, so he can't tell when he's sharp or flat, but can generally hit the right vicinity of notes. There are some notes he simply can't hear because they're higher than even Tony's best hearing aid can assist him with. He played the recorder in school. That's pretty much the extent of his instrumental capabilities.

What are they like when they get sick? Do they have a particular system (ears, lungs, etc) that illness gravitates to? He's pretty used to being sick, as he gets whatever's going around that he hasn't been vaccinated against (Steve Rogers is the biggest pro-vaxxer out there, so JJ was vaccinated against everything and has never not had a flu shot ever. Steve will text to ask him if he's had one as soon as they are available). Most illnesses go straight to his ears and lungs, so lots of ear infections and coughing. He takes it all on the chin, and just tries to hunker down until it's over.

What is a gift that they have received that was especially touching or significant? Uncle Tony has never charged for any of the hearing aids he's made JJ (the first one being when JJ was six weeks old). He maintains he's making money from patenting the technology after he's tried it out on JJ. So, technically, Tony gave JJ the gift of hearing, and that's pretty damned significant, and also rather touching.

How do they arrange or decorate their living space? JJ has always been a person who likes visuals of people he loves and things he's passionate about, so there are lots of posters and pictures on his walls. He likes a lot of open space, and his apartment isn't very big, so there isn't much in the way of furniture, and what there is tends to double as storage space (e.g his couch and chair both have bookshelves in them). He'd rather have furniture that means something or serves a purpose than matches everything else. There is a mix of modern and old-fashioned all over the place.

Nora Rogers

Who did they look up to the most as a child? Her mother. Nora's always admired her mother's ability to just care about everyone and everything, and go around looking after people without ever stopping to think it might be an effort to do it. She set a fine example of how a person can be a good parent and still do the job they love. Nora hopes she isn't quite as fussy about everything as her mother is, but if she's half as warm and caring as her, she'd be really pleased.

What nicknames/pet names/terms of endearment did they have when they were little? 'Sunshine' was used by her mother, and is still used. Her grandfather called her his 'sweet colleen', but he also called all his female grandchildren that (while insisting to each of them that they were his 'favourite' one). Dad calls her 'Nor', which a lot of other people do as well, but Nora feels like that's his equivalent of 'sweetheart'. She also feels that way when Steve uses it, too, actually.

What clothing do they like to wear, and what do they wear most often? Nora is very much a boho in her style of dress. She likes things over-sized and flowy, and owns a lot of long cardigans, and sundresses, and leggings. Most often, she's in a long blouse, leggings, some sort of cover-up, and pair of comfortable shoes to be standing around in all day. These are her favourite shoes.

Do they sing or play any musical instruments, even if just for fun? How well? Nora sang in the school choir, and played flute in music class, but she would be hard pressed to play a flute now. She has a pleasant singing voice, with a kind of Celtic lilt to it, and she enjoys singing Irish ballads to her plants.

What are they like when they get sick? Do they have a particular system (ears, lungs, etc) that illness gravitates to? Nora's illnesses mostly come in the form of a very high fever, where she gets red in the face, and huddles under blankets, and doesn't seem very with-it. Whatever other symptoms--cough, sore throat, etc--are secondary to the fever, which comes fast, makes her rather loopy, and leaves quickly. She's never sick for long, and she mostly just watches the Home and Garden network, or BBC mini-series until she feels better.

What is a gift that they have received that was especially touching or significant?

Steve gave her a locket for her birthday, when they were still dating, which was sweet in and of itself. But he also was kind of unsure about it, and mentioned that most girls wore lockets in his day, and he wasn't sure if that was still a thing, which was adorable. And on top of that, it was inspired by The Secret Garden, which is Nora's favourite book, and that made it over-the-top touching.

How do they arrange or decorate their living space? Nora likes things cozy and homey. She has flowers everywhere, both real live ones, and floral patterns on sheets and bedspreads. She likes little nooks to curl up in, and furniture that's plush that she can sink into with a good book. Books are also everywhere, and she collects old ones with nice bindings that are pretty to look at as well as enjoyable to read. Her tastes are old-fashioned, and a little Victorian.

These are great! I love the detail about Steve giving Nora a locket. That's totally heart-melty.

Also, JJ looking up to Steve makes sense and I can just imagine the father-son talks he had with JJ when he was little about NEVER doing the things Steve does. I also grinned a lot at the thought of pro-vaxxer Steve.

Thanks for doing this meme!

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/321866704597352384/>I found this and I could only picture some sort of e-mail chain at Stark Tower, or JJ and Winnie discussing Steve. It totally sums up what I think would be like to be raised by Steve.

In the JJ's birth ficI have, Steve goes on a little rant about about how awesome modern medicine is and he doesn't get why people don't want to use it. No, his wife should not be giving birth naturally in a forest without medicine or intervention and have dolphin midwives, thank you, she can do whatever she wants because we can do that now! Look at all the epidurals and monitors we have! I can totally picture the PSA Steve did to promote vaccinations, because why would you want your child to get measles? Measles are awful. Vaccinate your children, Captain America says so.

"and you get mega dead. I believe in you though!"

This is so Steve Rogers. Or rather, this is so Tony Stark's imitation of Steve Rogers.

Tony: He will supportively destroy your dreams.

Yeah, I totally read the last entry in Tony's voice.

Steve: I don't sound like that,
Issie: You sound a little like that.

Tony: He will supportively destroy your dreams

I feel like Steve did a lot of redirection with JJ rather than destroy all his hopes.

JJ: I want to jump from the very high diving board!
Steve: That sounds like fun, but why don't we see who can get to the end of the pool fastest?
JJ: okay! *swims away*
Steve: *waits for a few minutes, then paddles gently after him.
