Daemon Meme
Reviving this because...reasons.

Give me the name of a character and I'll tell you the following about their daemon:

Animal:
Name:
Nickname:
Major Personality Traits:
How he/she sleeps:
How he/she travels with his/her human:
What he/she does when his/her human is at rest:
Favourite forms before he/she settled:
What his/her voice sounds like:

I can probably come up with a daemon if it's for a character I haven't yet given one to (if you can find one!). Feel free to ask for more than one character.

How about Abby and/or Sarah? Don't think they've been in the daemonverse yet. Also: having worked as an usher for a dance recital all weekend, I have a hankering for fanfiction of Abby's first dance recital.

I can do you Sarah now. Her daemon has never appeared in fic, but he exists in my head. I may be able to do you Abby as well. And, as a former dance kid, First Dance recital fic sounds like a very good idea! :-D

Animal: Canada Goose
Name: Sana (meaning 'heal')
Nickname: San
Major Personality Traits: San is a bold, stalwart kind of daemon, with a soft, silly, cuddly side. He prefers to be at home with his family, but if he needs to protect that family, he goes in head first.
How he/she sleeps: If he and Sarah are alone in the bed, he sleeps up against her stomach, with his head turned over his back. If John and Subira are there, San sleeps at the foot of the bed with Subira. She mimics John's death-grip on Sarah by curling up around San's neck. He puts his head over her back.
How he/she travels with his/her human: Generally San waddles along with Sarah, but if she's on the run to chase Abby or handle an emergency, he'll fly around to keep up.
What he/she does when his/her human is at rest: At work, Sana has a tendency to get up and take a few laps around her desk when she starts to get bored of paperwork. Otherwise, he sort of sits near the door to keep an eye on the office. At home, he nestles in with Abby's daemon and/or Subira, usually on the floor at Sarah's feet.
Favourite forms before he/she settled: He went through a bat phase as a kid, but he also liked to be a bear cub, and experimented with being a tiger a few times, too.
What his/her voice sounds like: Wry, like he's amused a lot of the time. Soft-spoken, and playful, with a pleasant tenor quality. Has a tendency to sound a bit less refined than Sarah, accent-wise.

I haven't got a good enough idea of a grown-up Abby to find her daemon a permanent settled form, so I've answered the questions for his unsettled one.

Animal: Unsettled
Name: Kivan (from Kivanc, meaning 'pride/joy')
Nickname: Kiv, Kiwi (what Abby called him when she was learning to talk)
Major Personality Traits: Kiv is a young adventurer, who likes to learn about things and climb things and ask questions about things. He's a happy little guy, prone to giggling and loves to cuddle (much to Tzophiya's dismay). He's a touch shy around strangers, and can get fussy when he's made a mistake.
How he/she sleeps: He usually takes a cuddly puppy form at bedtime, and tucks himself under Abby's arm, squeezed between her chest and Mr Owl.
How he/she travels with his/her human: It depends on what form he's in at the time, but he's often in a pocket of Abby's clothing, or on her shoulder.
What he/she does when his/her human is at rest: Kiv likes to be right up in what Abby is doing, so he's usually near her face, looking at her activity, or down around her hands to observe and help out.
Favourite forms before he/she settled: So far, Kiv is still at the stage of development where he tends to take on forms of daemons he sees around him. He also tries to be like daemons that are good at the activity Abby is doing, so he's often a Go-Away bird if it's Science Time, and a gosling or baby mongoose if Dr Watson has her practice open. He quite likes being a frog, too.
What his/her voice sounds like: High and squeaky at the moment, and he hasn't quite got the hand of his 'R's' yet.

Hi there! I know it's been quite a while, but I've written your fic suggestion. Thanks for the great idea!

This is a bit blast from the past and obscure-y but Cal Lightman from "Lie to Me?"

Oh man, this is going to be a fun one! I shall get back you on it. :-D
The Writer They Call Tay: LTM: Cal in glassesawanderingbard on April 26th, 2015 11:14 pm (UTC)
Cal Lightman

Animal: Eastern Screech Owl (Rufous morph)
Name: Verissima (Italian, meaning 'very true'). Generally goes by 'Sima', to such an extent that most people don't know she has a longer name.
Nickname: Sim. Emily and her daemon called her 'Simi!' very excitedly when learning to talk, and sometimes still call her that. Not as much, because Emily is a petulant teenager.
Major Personality Traits: Sim is an up-in-your-face, lack of personal space, kind of daemon. She's not quite as abrasive as Cal, but if she's trying to get information from you, she puffs herself up and gets right in there. Otherwise, she's quiet and thoughtful, and a bit charming, and very protective of those she cares about. Sometimes to a smothering degree.
How he/she sleeps: She perches on the headboard of Cal's bed. Sometimes dangerous, as she has, on occasion tumbled right off her perch and onto him if he's had a bit too much to drink. If there's a partner in bed, she either puts them under her wing, or sits on top of them, depending on size.
How he/she travels with his/her human: Sim rides his shoulder, and has the unsettling habit of keep her eye on things, turning her head the full 270 degrees as Cal continues to go about his business. Friends get used to it, but interns basically feel they're about to be fired at any moment. Sometimes she flies, which is no less unsettling as the silence of her wings makes her seem like she's just popping out at you from nowhere.
What he/she does when his/her human is at rest: Sim perches on the back of Cal's chair, and looks over his shoulder while he works. If he's analyzing or interrogating, she sits on his shoulder or a flat surface, and cocks her head around in a bobbing motion, listening and looking.
Favourite forms before he/she settled: Sim liked to be pouncy, slinky sort of cat when she was little. Margays were her favourite.
What his/her voice sounds like: Her South London accent is much thicker than Cal's, and hasn't faded from her time in America. Her voice has a pleasant purr to it, with a touch of grit.

This detail delights me for some reason.

This is such a good visual for what Cal does and how it unnerves people.

Awesome daemon!

This detail delights me for some reason.

Hee! It comes out of the fact that I didn't feel the colours and sounds of Verissima worked very well for Cal, but I could hear him calling her 'Sima' and 'Sim'. I had another name, Aletheya, which I felt suited the animal and colours better, but I didn't like the 'Cal and Al' feeling to it.

Sometimes synesthesia makes things really complicated.

This is such a good visual for what Cal does and how it unnerves people.

Tim Roth's tendency to act on angle as Cal, sloping to one side with his head, immediately made me think of an owl. There are a shed-load of owl species out there, though, so I took awhile to find one I liked.

Thanks for the prompt!
