I'm not sure "Song of the South" *can* be seen these days. Other than that I saw all of the dark age and classics and I have to agree with you about Fantasia, that is one freakishly scary movie.

I didn't do as well in the renaissance, missing 4 and then I go completely downhill- I haven't seen a single one of the modern age and only 4 of the pixar ones. I've only seen 7 of the other ones up to imported ones and 6 or 7 from then down

Apparently my inner child is deprived. I'm oddly okay with that.

Yeah, Disney seems to waffle between Song of the South being really racist or only a little bit racist.

I'm actually surprised by how much I've seen, considering that I was so very sensitive as a child that I rarely saw anything for fear that it would be 'scary'. I think I've caught up a lot as a teenager/adult though.

Anime is not my cup of tea, so I've not seen any of that, but I'm working my way through the Miyazaki films.

anime isn't my cup of tea either, but then again I tried to watch too much. I've seen several of the Miyazaki films, they are very good

Anime is a bit too weird for me. My friends are really into it, but I never got on the bandwagon. Ama keeps trying to find things for me, but she's only ever successfully gotten me into Host Club, which basically makes fun of all other anime. I've read the manga for that series, too.

Other than that and the Miyazaki films (which are just gorgeous), I usually just send up sitting there going 'this is weird'.

*hee* that's pretty much my reaction as well

I saw Fantasia when I was about four and had nightmares for years. It's so nice to know I'm not alone in my fear of that movie.

The Writer They Call Tay: BB: Oh No!awanderingbard on December 4th, 2010 02:04 pm (UTC)
Oh, Lord no! I saw it at about the same age, when it was re-released in theatres in 1990 and spent pretty much the whole movie with my face in my mum's shoulder, crying. The only time I looked up was when my mum desperately said 'look Taylor, horses!' during the Greek myth section when the pegasi arrived. Then I promptly went back to crying after that segment was over.

As a teenager, I decided to re-watch it to try to face my fears and I still found it very disturbing. I made it through the segment where all the dinosaurs die, but gave up at the Night on Bald Mountain segment.

I maintain that my fear of dancing brooms is the fault of Fantasia.
utah_yodautah_yoda on December 5th, 2010 02:09 am (UTC)
It's strange that we expose our children to such gruesomeness in the name of entertainment. Then we wonder why kids don't like classical music.

"I can't listen to that song. The dancing hippos will get me!"
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on December 5th, 2010 04:27 am (UTC)
It's funny, because my mum took us to see it thinking I would like it because I liked music so much and my brother really didn't want to go, but then it he loved it and I was terrified. But he was eight and I was four and I had always had trouble distinguishing between pretend and reality and it just wasn't the best choice.

I don't think Fantasia was ever meant as a 'children's movie', I think that it was meant for adults to enjoy and to show off the new sound technology they had developed, but because it's Disney, parents assumed it was kid friendly.
